Our residencies are aimed to professional and emerging artists of all nationalities and stages of their career, being in any artistic discipline related to the visual arts, sound and performance media looking forward their possible  hybridizations.

´ace support artists who need time, technical knowledge, equipment and / or feedback from their peers to produce and / or think about an artistic project. Our actions seek to generate a transformative process that feeds the resident artists with new experiences and knowledge allowing them to find new paths or delve into artistic content relevant to their work.

The name of the program, ´acePIRAR | Artists-in-Residence International Program, works on several layers of meaning. PIRAR is the Spanish acronym for Programa Internacional de Residencias ARtísticas, but at the same time, pirar is a colloquial word from the Río de la Plata lunfardo (slang).  In everyday usage, pirar can mean “to leave,” or “to go somewhere else unexpectedly,” while expressions such as estar pirado also refer to someone who has become slightly crazy or creatively unhinged.

The residency program embraces this poetic duality. To “pirar” is to step away from one’s habitual environment and comfort zone in order to enter another territory — artistically, physical, cultural, emotional, or conceptual — in search of new perspectives and inspirations. At the same time, it suggests allowing oneself a certain creative delirium: the freedom to experiment, to think differently, to risk, and to enter states of intense imagination and exchange. Surrounded by artists, curators, researchers, and specialists from diverse backgrounds, participants are invited to experience a temporary displacement that can transform both their practice and their way of seeing the world.

Since 2005, numerous visual artists and creators (including performers and sound artists) from the United States (including Alaska), Zimbabwe, Australia (including Tasmania), South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Mexico, Nicaragua, Uruguay, Colombia, Venezuela, Chile, Peru, Brazil, Bolivia, Canadá, UK, Sweden, France, Ireland, Austria, Belgium, Spain, Croatia, Italy, Denmark, Switzerland, Germany, Poland, Turkey, Pakistan, Qatar, India, Malaysia, South Africa, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Israel, New Zealand and The Netherlands, among others, have participated as artists-in-residence within international projects, special events and presentations at the ‘aceNITES.
