Open Call 2024 #3

31.07.24 31.10.24

Our residencies are aimed to professional and emerging artists of all nationalities and stages of their career, being in any artistic discipline related to the visual arts, sound and performance media looking forward their possible  hybridizations.

´ace support artists who need time, technical knowledge, equipment and / or feedback from their peers to produce and / or think about an artistic project. Our actions seek to generate a transformative process that feeds the resident artists with new experiences and knowledge allowing them to find new paths or delve into artistic content relevant to their work.

The name of the program ´acePIRAR | Artist’in’Residence International Program is a word play with the initials of the name (´ace x “hace” to do in Spanish) and of the program (PIRAR in Spanish) with “pirar”, a word belonging to the Argentine lunfardo (slang). Thus, it appropriates its double meaning: “to leave / to move suddenly to other place” and “to turn suddenly a little crazy”. The residences encourage the possibility of migrating from artists´ own sphere of creation to position themselves in a different one seeking new inspirations, as well as allowing themselves a “crazy” ebullition of ideas, within a space of freedom, surrounded by other artists, curators and specialists.

Since 2005, numerous visual artists and creators (including performers and sound artists) from the United States (including Alaska), Zimbabwe, Australia (including Tasmania), South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Mexico, Nicaragua, Uruguay, Colombia, Venezuela, Chile, Peru, Brazil, Bolivia, Canadá, UK, Sweden, France, Ireland, Austria, Belgium, Spain, Croatia, Italy, Denmark, Switzerland, Germany, Poland, Turkey, Pakistan, Qatar, India, Malaysia, South Africa, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Israel, New Zealand and The Netherlands, among others, have participated as artists-in-residence within international projects, special events and presentations at the ‘aceNITES.

The Latin America's Paris

Buenos Aires is Argentine Republic's capital city. With 15,000,000 inhabitants, it is one of the largest cities in Latin America and one of the 10 most populous urban centers in the world. Its cosmopolitan and urban character vibrates to the rhythm of a great cultural offer that includes monuments, churches, museums, art galleries, opera, music and theaters; squares, parks and gardens with old groves; characteristic neighborhoods; large shopping centers and fairs. Here we also find a very good lodging facilities, with accommodation ranging from hostels to five-star hotels of the main international chains. Buenos Aires also show off about its variety of restaurants with all the cuisines of the world, as well as to have cafes and flower kiosks on every corner.

A neighborhood founded on the Jesuit farms in the 17th century

We are located in Colegiales neighborhood where the tree-lined streets, some of which still have their original cobblestones, invite you to walk. Although the apartment buildings advance, low houses still predominate. It is a district of the city where about 20 TV production companies, design studios, artist workshops and the Rock&Pop radio have been located. The neighborhood also has six squares, one of which pays homage to Mafalda, the Flea Market, shops, restaurants and cafes like its neighboring Barrios de Palermo and Belgrano, with which it limits.
