Carolina Azálgara
She Space

Carolina Azálgara is a Peruvian artist, barista and flamenco professional dancer. She has lived in different parts of Peru, France and Australia. From this term of “global” individuals that has become a very frequent phenomenon in the contemporary world, she proposed the project “She Space” (“Ella Espacio”).

STATEMENT OF THE ARTIST

In my work I explore the family as a social institution, and the bonds between the individuals who are part of these relationships. I also look into the individual as a final result of the family core. Emphasising the individual outside the family, as a self-sufficient, independent and autonomous being.

These matters are approached as self portraits through people, who conformed a family or other social circles. Explaining how, in an indirect way, the relationships between the individual and family.

I use symbology equivalent to a personal language or medium to express the subjects I’m approaching. Using sew and some traditional printmaking techniques that allows the interpretation of wounds, stitches, sutures and emotional scars, originated as a result of certain events that happened in the past, inside the family core. Sometimes known as the personal baggage we carry along in past relationships and in life.

The process of work is sequential, in order of events. I’m interested in telling stories which they could be autobiographical but also could be anyone else’s story.

She present
Carolina Azálgara

After she completed her residency, artist Carolina Azálgara, exhibited her installation Ella Presente (She Present) in the Transversal Space at the Fundación ‘ace in the ‘ aceNITE of November 4th, 2015.

As her works are in small format, and printed on paper and tulle, Azálgara made an installation with a playful and nostalgic tone, that included drawings that could be read to children. In that way, she evoked moments and atmospheres of human development, growth and changes in family ties. She emphasized the constant decision-making that occurs in the construction of our identity through the repetition of an image with different clothes, naked, exposing the “stitchings” of life. Through the illustrations on the wall and the connection of the prints through the sewing thread, the artist made us think about the movements of deterritorialization within our own searches of identity and self-recognition.

The Latin America's Paris

Buenos Aires is Argentine Republic's capital city. With 15,000,000 inhabitants, it is one of the largest cities in Latin America and one of the 10 most populous urban centers in the world. Its cosmopolitan and urban character vibrates to the rhythm of a great cultural offer that includes monuments, churches, museums, art galleries, opera, music and theaters; squares, parks and gardens with old groves; characteristic neighborhoods; large shopping centers and fairs. Here we also find a very good lodging facilities, with accommodation ranging from hostels to five-star hotels of the main international chains. Buenos Aires also show off about its variety of restaurants with all the cuisines of the world, as well as to have cafes and flower kiosks on every corner.

A neighborhood founded on the Jesuit farms in the 17th century

We are located in Colegiales neighborhood where the tree-lined streets, some of which still have their original cobblestones, invite you to walk. Although the apartment buildings advance, low houses still predominate. It is a district of the city where about 20 TV production companies, design studios, artist workshops and the Rock&Pop radio have been located. The neighborhood also has six squares, one of which pays homage to Mafalda, the Flea Market, shops, restaurants and cafes like its neighboring Barrios de Palermo and Belgrano, with which it limits.
