Caia Diepenbrock
Seeing Through The Mind's Eye

31.01.22 25.02.22

Caia Diepenbrock is a multimedia artist originally from Rhode Island, USA. She has been living and working in Los Angeles, CA since graduating from Bard College in New York with a Bachelor’s degree in Studio Arts in 2015.

During Caia’s time at ´ace, she experimented with the process of Photolithography printmaking. Starting by taking photographs around the city at places like the Recoleta Cemetery and the Museo de Artes Decorativos, she then printed these photos out to create collages and further edited them in Photoshop to be later transferred onto aluminum plates. Working in the print studio, she created a series of dynamic prints that explore this process of translation. By starting with what inspired her aesthetically around the city of Buenos Aires and later rearranging, mixing and contrasting these images together, these pieces culminate into a representation of how we as individuals subjectively experience the world around us. The work juxtaposes classical architecture with modern patterns and the ephemeral energy of the sky – a collection entitled DIOSA CIELO / The Sky is A Goddess. Caia continues to work with these ideas and the plates she created at ‘Ace in her studio in Los Angeles.

ABOUT HER PROJECT

Through creating an immersive experience for the viewer, I explore the psychological process of translating the world through our individual perceptions and emotions. How do we experience this act of translating when navigating the visual world? The project is rooted in using materials that reflect light, create dynamic shadows, and shape-shift from different perspectives. In the same vein as an optical illusion, these pieces trick the eye and play with our expectations of reality. The aim is to echo the serenity of existing in the present moment and using our intuition to navigate the world.

The Latin America's Paris

Buenos Aires is Argentine Republic's capital city. With 15,000,000 inhabitants, it is one of the largest cities in Latin America and one of the 10 most populous urban centers in the world. Its cosmopolitan and urban character vibrates to the rhythm of a great cultural offer that includes monuments, churches, museums, art galleries, opera, music and theaters; squares, parks and gardens with old groves; characteristic neighborhoods; large shopping centers and fairs. Here we also find a very good lodging facilities, with accommodation ranging from hostels to five-star hotels of the main international chains. Buenos Aires also show off about its variety of restaurants with all the cuisines of the world, as well as to have cafes and flower kiosks on every corner.

A neighborhood founded on the Jesuit farms in the 17th century

We are located in Colegiales neighborhood where the tree-lined streets, some of which still have their original cobblestones, invite you to walk. Although the apartment buildings advance, low houses still predominate. It is a district of the city where about 20 TV production companies, design studios, artist workshops and the Rock&Pop radio have been located. The neighborhood also has six squares, one of which pays homage to Mafalda, the Flea Market, shops, restaurants and cafes like its neighboring Barrios de Palermo and Belgrano, with which it limits.
