Freya Reeves
JOY

Freya Reeves grew up in Southampton, England, and studied Fashion Communication in London, graduating with First-Class Honours. Her professional experience in retail, production and, most recently, as an assistant art director has shaped her visual approach and creative practice. Alongside her professional work, she has developed an interest in bringing more physical and hands-on processes into her practice.

In 2025, following her participation in TransWeek in Provincetown, Massachusetts, she began JOY, a self-funded zine that brings together her creative interests and marks a new chapter in her practice. Her current work explores ways of combining image-making, printed matter and personal experience, while expanding her practice through more experimental and material processes.

ARTIST STATEMENT

At its core, JOY is a love letter to the extraordinary people I met during TransWeek, held in Provincetown, Massachusetts. The zine brings together personal narratives and community voices to highlight the beauty, resilience, and JOY within the trans and gender non-conforming community. I hoped the pages evoked feelings as beautiful and infectious as the JOY I and others experienced at TransWeek.

I want to keep this going, this infectiousness, by exploring more and bringing JOY into the world from a new perspective—a second edition, so to speak, similar to how musicians release extended editions or remix albums. This is what I seek to do.
