RESIDENCIES

1-1=1

23.09.2012 to 10.10.2012

Maria Jose (MaJo) Sánchez Chiappe is an artist who navigates the field of experimentation without prejudice.  1-1=1 is the project that she pursued during her residency at ´ace. The project seeks to demonstrate  pairs complementary opposites of our everyday universe trying to develop a system of laws.
On October 10 will be the opening of Sanchez Chiappe installation which will culminate a 6 months long residency at ace. In  april 2012, MaJo opened a new residencies format designed for artists living in the city of Buenos Aires. In this new format, which meets the expectations and possibilities raised by the same artists, residencies are conducted over several months with an artist's physical assistance for production of work in our workshops during one week (total three weeks) while the project has reviews during the remaining time. In addition, the residences are partially sponsored by the Fundación ´ace para el Arte Contemporáneo, which means that they have a reduced tuition.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Generally my creative process is activated forced by doubts and curiosities. I make and hypotheses which need to be verify. Through a process of theoretical and practical research, I developed a system of laws that will be the backbone of the project. During the creation process, I will be always associated with this system, either out of respect or transgression. Once I can get a solid body of ideas,I decide the issues that have to do with the support, materials and language. The support should be tailored to the idea and not the reverse. Each element must have a particular function. My purpose is to transfer my feelings.
