Originary from Taipei, Taiwan Hui-Chu Ying is currently an Associate Professor at the Myers School of Art, University of Akron.She graduated as B.A. at San Jose State University and received a M.F.A. from West Texas State University, 1987.
Ying uses I-Ching, the Chinese book of changes, as the basis for her creative process. In her prints, multiple woodblocks and silkscreens are used to build up layers. Designs and motifs are generated from historical and contemporary art sources. The elements are chosen randomly and combined to make the image a whole. She uses a variety of media combining painting, drawing, etching, screen-printing, relief printing, and collages.
