G. Foster Gluck
26.01.2015 to 13.02.2015
Artist and performer Geneva Foster-Gluck, grew up in Arizona with political-activist hippie parents who named her after the 1973 Geneva Peace Conference. After training as a gymnast and dancer, and working in America’s ‘underground’ circus movement, she moved to London in 2003 and started her own circus company, Sugar Beast Circus. Currently she lives and works in Tucson, Arizona.
During the Exploration Residency, Geneva will develop the "script" of a visual performance project which combines autobiographical and fictional writing, video, image and animation, and live performance. For this she will collect images, sounds and narrative inspiration from the city of Buenos Aires.
My practice as an artist can be described as an evolution of visual story telling, where emotional and intellectual curiosities becomes animated through live performance. Using extreme physicality, imagination and nonlinear connections with fact, science and history to sketch intuitive landscapes, alternate realities and new discourse with mainstream culture.
I will use the ACE Residence to explore new ways of creating visual narratives which combine digital image, text and live performance. I will focus on the themes of the female athlete and the ageing body.
