Lead and Follow

29.10.2019 to 22.11.2019

Dongjoo Seo (Seoul, 1982) is a Korean artist who works with video, multimedia, graphic design, installation and text. His participation in Foundación´ace's artist-in-residence program happened thanks to an agreement with ARKO (Korea Art Council).

During his residency at Proyecto´ace, Dongjoo Seo developed a project titled Lead and Follow, through which he explored the relationship between body, space and time combining fictional narratives with an audiovisual experimentation by means of a documentary filmmaking approach.

Based on self-reflective, site-specific, process-oriented, performative storytelling, Lead and Follow explores the duality between dream and real, material and emotion, the self and the other, loss and empathy, and Seoul and Buenos Aires (two cities that are, practically, on exact opposite sides of the globe).

For this project, Dongjoo Seo had the help and support from all the team at Proyecto´ace plus the rest of the artists in residence, all of which participated in the filming of his work by dancing an experimental tango piece for the camera. The building that hosts Proyecto´ace’s residency studios, which is 115 years old and has been completely refurbished to this purpose, also became one of the main characters in Dongjoo Seo’s piece.
